MASON, Ohio − The Cincinnati Open, formerly called the , storms into Wednesday's second-round action with some of the top-ranked ATP and WTA players set to take the court.
Wednesday's order of play features 40 total matches spread out between two sessions and eight courts.
Thursday's schedule at the Cincinnati Open
Thursday's schedule includes WTA No. 2 Coco Gauff and ATP No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz on Center Court. Gauff continues her journey to defend her 2023 title while Alcaraz can move one step closer to the quarterfinals and a World No. 2 ranking. You can view the full order of play here.
Wednesday's WTA/ATP tennis results from the Cincinnati Open
Jiri Lehecka ends the day with an upset of Medvedev
Jiri Lehecka earned his third win over a top 10 opponent of 2024 with a 7-6, 6-4 upset of No. 4 Daniil Medvedev. It is his second defeat of Medvedev this year. Lehecka used a strong service game, winning 75 percent of his first serves. His ability to cover ground throughout the match helped him to keep the ball in play and cornered Medvedev into unforced errors. Lehecka advances to the Round of 16 where he will face Francis Tiafoe.
Magdalena Frech comes back to beat Marie Bouzkova
Qualifier Magdalena Frech came back from a first set loss to defeat Marie Bouzkova 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. It was her first win against Bouzkova; their only previous matchup came in Auckland, New Zealand in January. All three Polish players are still in the main draw. Magda Linette, who is doubles partners with Cincinnati native Peyton Stearns, will face Ludmilla Samsonova on Thursday. Frech and No. 1 Iga Swiatek will return to the court on Friday.
Caroline Wozniacki earns straight set win over Anhelina Kalinina
Appearing in her 13th tournament in Cincinnati, Wild Card Caroline Wozniacki opened up with a 6-2, 6-4 victory Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina. It was a tale of two sets for Wozniacki, who broke serve three times in the first set before serving up all of her aces in the second set. She only had one double fault in the second set and broke Kalinina's serve one last time to claim the victory. She will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Friday.
Iga Swiatek survives against upstart Varvara Gracheva
No. 1 Iga Swiatek was seemingly on her way to a casual victory after a 22-minute, 6-0 first set. The match felt even more in hand when she led 5-2 in the second set. But Varvara Gracheva, who was making her fourth appearance in Cincinnati, battled back to take the set, 7-6 (8). With the third set sitting at two game apiece, Swiatek regained composure to break serve twice and win, 6-2.
Jordan Thompson dispatches Sebastian Baez in straight sets
Australian Jordan Thompson advanced to his second straight Round of 16 in Cincinnati with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Sebastian Baez. In his first ATP Masters 1000 Round of 16 appearance this year, he will face No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
Francis Tiafoe through to the Round of 16
American Francis Tiafoe scored a straight-set victory over No. 14 Lorenzo Musetti. The two had gone back and forth in their previous six meetings, but this is the first time Tiafoe has claimed consecutive victories over his Italian counterpart. This will be Tiafoe's first Round of 16 appearance since 2017. Another win and a spot in the quarterfinals would be a new best result for him in Cincinnati.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova comes back to defeat Beatriz Haddad Maia
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova endured an almost three hour match to defeat Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. Pavlyuchenkova broke through in the third set thanks to two broken serves. It is her first WTA 1000 Round of 32 appearance since she did so in Madrid in April of this year. She will face the winner of Caroline Wozniacki and Anhelina Kalinina.
Marta Kostyuk earns straight-set victory over Lulu Sun
No. 15. Marta Kostyuk barely had to break a sweat in her first round victory, prevailing 6-3, 7-5. It is her second straight WTA 1000 Round of 16 appearance. However, she fell at that stage in Toronto to Emma Navarro. Kostyuk will face the winner of No. 1 Iga Swiatek and qualifier Varvara Gracheva.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry advances to face Ben Shelton
Argentinian Tomas Martin Etcheverry withstood a three-set duel with Italy's Matteo Arnaldi, winning 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. Etcheverry won seven break points to defeat Arnaldi for the first time since the two faced off in Todi, Italy in 2022. Ben Shelton, the No. 12 seed, has advanced to the Round of 32 in every ATP Masters 1000 event he has played this year, but has advanced to the Round of 16 once (Indian Wells).
Karolina Muchova sets up match with Jessica Pegula
No. 35 Karolina Muchova won a tough first set 7-6 (6) before defeating Dayana Yastremska in straights. Muchova tallied six aces and took advantage of 12 double faults from Yastremska. Muchova now faces No. 6 Jessica Pegula, fresh off a National Bank Open title, in the Round of 32.
Mirra Andreeva looks stellar against Emma Navarro
Coming off a semifinal run in Toronto that produced a career-high No. 13 ranking, Emma Navarro had the momentum for a Cincinnati run. However, the 23-year-old American ran into No. 24 Mirra Andreeva, who cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at Center Court in her Cincinnati Open debut.
Pablo Carreno Busta upsets Sebastian Korda
In just his fourth tour-level event of the year, World No. 513 Pablo Carreno Busta upset No. 15 Sebastian Korda in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. Korda had achieved his career-high ranking after an ATP 500 title in Washington and a semifinal run in Montreal.
Gael Monfils bounces back
Gael Monfils has dropped 12 spots to No. 46 in the ATP rankings this year and had suffered back-to-back first-round exits (Montreal, Paris) before Wednesday's 7-5, 6-3 win over Alexei Popyrin.
Liudmila Samsonova continues strong summer
World No. 17 Liudmila Samsonova, coming off a WTA 1000 quarterfinal run in Toronto, defeated China's Xinyu Wang 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Taylor Townsend's wild ride continues
Wimbledon doubles champion Taylor Townsend, who was "running on fumes" upon her rushed weekend arrival in Mason, is through to the Round of 32 after a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7) win over American wild card Caroline Dolehide. The match took 2 hours, 24 minutes. Townsend is part of the top-seeded doubles team with Katerina Siniakova and will play tomorrow.

Jack Draper prevails in 3 sets
World No. 28 Jack Draper improved to 4-6 in ATP Masters 1000 events this season after a 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (5) victory over qualifier Jaume Munar.
"Lucky Loser" Jessica Bouzas Maneiro heads to Round of 32
Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro's is still going despite a loss in the qualifying tournament on Monday. The World No. 91 became the "Lucky Loser" when she replaced two-time Cincinnati Open champion Victoria Azarenka, who withdrew from the tournament Wednesday.
Maneiro made the most of the opportunity, defeating Lucia Bronzetti 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (1) for her first WTA 1000 victory since the Madrid Open in April.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner wins on Center Court
Though challenged by 19-year-old American Alex Michelsen, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner is through to the Round of 32 after a 6-4, 7-5 victory.
Max Purcell wins again in Mason
One player happy the Cincinnati Open is sticking around is Australia's Max Purcell. The World No. 68 hadn't won a singles match in an ATP Masters 1000 tournament this season until Wednesday's 6-4, 7-6 (1) victory over Tomas Machac. Purcell, No. 21 in doubles, was also victorious with partner Jordan Thompson in the first round of the doubles main draw Tuesday.
Holger Rune shakes off sloppy start
World No. 16 Holger Rune stumbled out of the gates with a first-set loss (6-3) Wednesday to Italian Wild Card Matteo Berrettini, but was able to bounce back for a three-set victory. Rune has won at least two matches in three consecutive tournaments heading into Mason.
Leylah Fernandez notches first Cincinnati victory
World No. 26 Leylah Fernandez has her first career Cincinnati Open main draw victory after beating China's Yue Yuan 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Fernandez entered Wednesday 0-3 all-time in the Cincinnati Round of 64.
Qualifier Nuno Borges advances to Round of 32
Could we see a qualifier make a Cincinnati Open run? World No. 39 Nuno Borges, who opened the event with a win over Cincinnati native J.J. Wolf, picked up his first main draw Cincinnati Open victory Wednesday, defeating France's Adrian Mannarino 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

World No. 11 Stefano Tsitsipas lost the first set on Center Court Wednesday afternoon, but eventually overcame German Jan-Lennard Struff, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Tsitsipas is now 12-6 all-time in Cincinnati, including a run to the finals in 2022.

Diana Shnaider sharp in 1st round victory
Coming off a run to the Canadian Open semifinals, which earned her a career-high ranking of No. 20, Diana Shnaider made quick work off first-round opponent Shuai Zhang Wednesday. In just 56 minutes, Shnaider advanced to the Round of 32 with a 6-1, 6-4 win.

Gates at the Lindner Family Tennis Center open at 9:30 a.m. for Wednesday's day session with the first matches scheduled for 11 a.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. for the night session and matches will begin at 7 p.m.
